AnimEigo is continuing its mission of preserving classic and hard-to-find anime with a major slate of new acquisitions. During its Otakon 2026 panel, the boutique anime distributor and its parent company, MediaOCD, announced five new licenses coming to Blu-ray, offering fans a mix of beloved classics, long out-of-print favorites, and critically acclaimed series that span multiple genres.
The newly announced titles include Antique Bakery, Dog of Flanders: The Movie, ReLIFE, Ruin Explorers: Fam & Ihrie, and Welcome to Ibaru’s Office. All five releases are currently planned for 2027, reinforcing AnimEigo’s growing reputation as one of the industry’s leading publishers of restored and collector-focused anime releases.
Among the biggest announcements is ReLIFE, a fan-favorite 2016 series that has become increasingly difficult to find since its original home video release went out of print. Based on the manga by YayoiSo, the series follows 27-year-old Arata Kaizaki, whose stagnant adult life takes an unexpected turn when he joins an experimental rehabilitation program that transforms him back into the appearance of a high school student. His second chance at adolescence becomes an opportunity to rebuild his future while navigating the challenges of teenage life once again.

AnimEigo confirmed that its release will include both the complete 13-episode television series and the four-episode OVA continuation, giving fans a comprehensive edition of the entire story for the first time in years.
Classic anime enthusiasts also have something to celebrate with the addition of Dog of Flanders: The Movie. The emotional 1997 feature serves as a remake of the beloved 1975 television series, telling the heartbreaking story of a young aspiring artist and his loyal dog in 19th-century Belgium.
Rather than simply reissuing the film, AnimEigo plans to debut a brand-new 4K restoration of the original uncut Pioneer version. The release will also preserve the English dub featuring acclaimed actor Robert Loggia, making it a notable archival effort for collectors interested in anime history.
Slice-of-life fans can also look forward to Antique Bakery, the anime adaptation of Fumi Yoshinaga’s award-winning manga. Set inside a French bakery in Tokyo, the series follows four men whose personal lives intertwine with the daily operations of the shop. Yoshinaga’s manga earned the Kodansha Manga Award for Best Shojo Manga and has remained a respected work within the genre thanks to its blend of humor, drama, and heartfelt character relationships.
AnimEigo is also bringing back the fantasy adventure OVA Ruin Explorers: Fam & Ihrie. Originally released in 1995, the four-episode series follows two female treasure hunters searching for the legendary “Ultimate Power” in a magical fantasy world. Written and directed by Takeshi Mori, with a musical score composed by Masamichi Amano, the release will feature a new HD restoration aimed at showcasing the OVA with improved picture quality.
Rounding out the announcements is Welcome to Ibaru’s Office, a unique psychological drama directed by Kenji Nakamura and produced by Toei Animation. Adapted from Hideo Okuda’s acclaimed short stories, the 2009 series centers on the eccentric psychiatrist Dr. Ichiro Irabu, whose unconventional methods help patients dealing with unusual physical symptoms rooted in psychological stress. The series has earned praise over the years for its distinctive visual style and surreal storytelling.
The Otakon announcements continue AnimEigo’s recent strategy of balancing anime preservation with the return of titles that have become increasingly difficult for fans to purchase legally. Rather than focusing solely on the newest seasonal hits, the company has carved out a niche by restoring overlooked classics, reviving out-of-print releases, and producing collector-quality Blu-ray editions that appeal to longtime anime enthusiasts.
With five diverse additions ranging from slice-of-life and fantasy adventures to psychological drama and timeless classics, AnimEigo’s 2027 release schedule is shaping up to be one of its most ambitious yet, giving both veteran collectors and newer fans fresh opportunities to experience some of anime’s most memorable stories in high-definition.
