It may have taken quite a bit longer than originally anticipated, but Creed II is finally underway. The film faced a bit of a delay during the pre-production stage and was originally set to be directed by Sylvester Stallone. However, a couple months back, it was revealed that producer (and Creed director) Ryan Coogler’s film school friend Steven Caple Jr. would instead be taking the reins this time around.
Despite the mild shakeup, this film is happening, and Stallone took to Instagram to share a video of him commemorating the first day on set.
“You know the old cliché that it “seems like yesterday and “but it does and it’s a very exciting moment to be here getting ready to Watch Creed 2 to commence filming. A very exciting day !!! The actors and production team has been waiting a long Time for this film to start , so ladies and gentlemen get ready to watch the fists startFLYING! #MGM #rockybalboa #CREED2“
In the video, Stallone reminisces about the first Rocky, and how the first “motorhome” they had in that original film was in the back of the van. Clearly, the young Stallone has come a long way in the decades since.
Creed II is set to not only bring back Rocky and Adonis Creed, but also one-time Rocky IV baddie Ivan Drago, who killed Apollo Creed and went on to fight Rocky in the final match. This time around, his son is set to take on Adonis Creed in a fight that is sure to bring lots of emotions and high stakes to the equation.
