In a recent video with Digital Spy, Dave Bautista’s Favorite Roles, Bautista explained why he chose to star in Netflix’s Army of the Dead instead of James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. The difficult decision was about conflicting schedules.

James Gunn had written a role for Dave Bautista in his new movie. Bautista stated he would have loved to be in. Gunn and Bautista are friends and love working together, but with Army of the Dead, Bautista could get a leading role and also get the opportunity to start a working relationship with Netflix.
Bautista Had Said In The Video:
James Gunn wrote a role for me in The Suicide Squad, which I was all fired up about, not only because he was making a huge comeback. He’s come back with The Suicide Squad and was rehired by Marvel, and has really been vindicated as far as that whole thing went.
I was all up for it, and then I got Army of the Dead, which was not only a lead role for me, but also I really wanted to work with Zack Snyder. I’ve been wanting to work with him for years.
Bautista starred as Drax in Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in 2014 and 2017. I think it’s great that Gunn really likes working with Bautista. Also, that Gunn is so supportive.
After Bautista called James Gunn to turn him down, Gunn said:
I completely get it. I’m proud of you that you’re even in this position. I’m proud that I had something to do with you being in this position where you have to make these hard decisions.
Dave Bautista will be playing Scott Ward in Army of the Dead and will be released on May 21. Additionally, we will be seeing Bautista back as Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
