Disney Reportedly Unimpressed By The New Mutants
Poor The New Mutants. This is a project that has been in existence in some form or another for a long time now. No joke. This thing was supposed to come out in April of last year, and is — as of this moment — set to release in April of next year. That would mean there is at least a two-year delay between the original date and the new date…that is if it hits theaters at all.
In the past, there has been plenty of speculation surrounding The New Mutants, its director Josh Boone, and the eventual release. Some have said a Hulu release is more likely than a theatrical one, but that has largely been seen as unfounded.

However, a new report from Variety indicates that it could, in fact, be a direction they plan on going. According to them, Disney is not only unimpressed with the film, but they believe it has limited box office potential. That last part is key. While quality is one thing, limited box office potential is a real dealbreaker.
The article doesn’t explicitly state that a Hulu release is a possibility, but if Disney thinks the box office viability is limited for the Josh Boone-directed movie, that seems like a very likely direction they could take.
