December has arrived, bringing a wave of excitement for Disney fans as Mufasa: The Lion King makes its big-screen debut on December 20, 2024. Disney has unveiled “Music of Mufasa” featurette and exhibition posters to celebrate the film’s impending release. Also, Walt Disney Records has announced that the original motion picture soundtrack will drop on December 13, with both songs-only and deluxe versions available for pre-add and pre-order now.
The soundtrack showcases the genius of Grammy®, Tony®, and Emmy® Award winner Lin-Manuel Miranda, who wrote the film’s original songs. Miranda collaborated with Grammy-winning producer Mark Mancina and contributed additional music alongside iconic South African composer and performer Lebo M. “The Lion King has an incredible musical legacy with music from some of the greatest songwriters around, and I’m humbled and proud to be a part of it,” Miranda shared. “It’s been a joy working alongside Barry Jenkins to bring Mufasa’s story to life, and we can’t wait for audiences to experience this film in theaters.”
The album, produced by Miranda, Mancina, and Grammy-winning Walt Disney Music President Tom MacDougall, also features a deluxe edition score by Tony Award-winning composer Dave Metzger. The track list includes:

Directed by Academy Award® winner Barry Jenkins, Mufasa: The Lion King explores the untold story of Mufasa’s rise to power in the Pride Lands. Told through flashbacks, the narrative is shared by Rafiki as he recounts Mufasa’s journey to young Kiara, Simba and Nala’s daughter. Audiences will meet a young, orphaned Mufasa, who crosses paths with Taka, an heir to a royal bloodline. Together, they embark on a quest filled with misfit allies, heart-pounding challenges, and a looming, deadly threat.
The films cast includes Aaron Pierre, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, Anika Noni Rose, Keith David, Mads Mikkelsen, and Donald Glover, among many others. Blending live-action techniques with cutting-edge photoreal computer-generated imagery, the film promises to deliver a cinematic experience.
