Halcyon Daze Documentary To Screen At San Diego Comic-Con And Gen Con

Fans who missed the chance to board the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser will have an opportunity to revisit its ambitious legacy this summer as the acclaimed documentary Halcyon Daze — The Final Voyages of Disney’s Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser heads to both San Diego Comic-Con and Gen Con.

The feature-length documentary has been selected as part of the Comic-Con International Independent Film Festival 2026 and the Gen Con Film Festival 2026, bringing the story of Disney’s groundbreaking immersive Star Wars experience to two of the largest fan conventions in the country.

Comic-Con attendees can catch the film on Thursday, July 23, at 9:30 p.m. PDT in Grand 6 at the Marriott Marquis San Diego. The documentary will then screen during Gen Con on Saturday, Aug. 1, at 3:30 p.m. EDT in Capitol Ballroom III at the Westin Indianapolis. A third screening will also take place the same day at the Flyover Film Festival in Louisville, Kentucky, beginning at 5:00 p.m. EDT at the Kentucky Science Center.

Directed by Carrie Coaplen, Halcyon Daze chronicles the rise, operation, and lasting impact of Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, Disney’s immersive two-night hotel experience that invited guests to become active participants in their own Star Wars adventure aboard the Halcyon. While the attraction operated for only a limited time, it developed a passionate fan community and remains one of Disney’s most ambitious themed entertainment projects.

Rather than focusing solely on the attraction itself, the documentary explores the people who helped create the experience and the guests whose lives were shaped by it. Through behind-the-scenes footage and personal stories, the film examines how the Starcruiser blended interactive storytelling, live performance, and role-playing into an experience unlike anything previously offered by Disney.

“At its core, Halcyon Daze has always been about the people who made the experience possible and the community that found connection and meaning on the Starcruiser,” director Carrie Coaplen said in a statement. “It’s a thrill to bring the film to events like Comic-Con that are really about connecting fans with things they love.”

The documentary features extensive footage captured inside the attraction, along with interviews with Imagineers, performers, crew members, industry experts, and members of the Starcruiser fan community. Production was partially funded through a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2025.

Producer and lead researcher Carly Kocurek noted that the project’s roots in interactive entertainment make Gen Con a particularly fitting venue for the documentary.

“I first got interested in the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser because of the way it leveraged game design, turning its guests into active participants,” Kocurek said. “Bringing the documentary to a gaming celebration like Gen Con feels a little like going back to the beginning of the project.”

Halcyon Daze has already built momentum on the festival circuit. The film has screened at the Poppy Jasper International Film Festival, Indy Film Fest, and the Miami International Science Fiction Film Festival, where it earned the Best Fan Documentary award. It has also been selected for the Portland Festival of Cinema, Animation, and Technology, where it received a nomination for Most Innovative Documentary.

Members of the filmmaking team are expected to attend all three upcoming screenings, giving audiences an opportunity to hear directly from the creators behind the documentary.
