IFC Films Acquires North American Rights to Elizabeth Banks’ New Thriller ‘Skincare’

IFC Films has secured the North American rights to “Skincare,” a crime thriller starring Elizabeth Banks, the company announced. The film features an ensemble cast including Lewis Pullman (“Top Gun: Maverick”), Luis Gerardo Méndez (“Charlie’s Angels”), Nathan Fillion (“The Rookie,” “The Suicide Squad”), and Michaela Jaé Rodriguez (“Pose”). Directed by Austin Peters in his narrative feature debut, “Skincare” is set to hit theaters on August 16, 2024.

“Skincare” is a fictional narrative inspired by true events. The story follows renowned aesthetician Hope Goldman (Elizabeth Banks) as she prepares to launch her own skincare line. Her plans are disrupted when a rival facialist, Angel Vergara (Luis Gerardo Méndez), opens a competing boutique across from her studio. As her business faces sabotage, Hope teams up with her friend Jordan (Lewis Pullman) to uncover who is trying to destroy her reputation and livelihood.

Scott Shooman, Head of AMC Networks’ Film Group, praised the film, stating, “Austin Peters has cleverly pumped life into the ‘whodunit’ genre by delivering a riveting thriller dripping with noir. Driven by a stellar ensemble cast with a terrific performance by Elizabeth Banks, who always commands the screen, we look forward to audiences seeing ‘Skincare’ in theaters this summer.”

Director Austin Peters expressed his excitement about the collaboration with IFC Films. “I have so many seminal memories watching films at the IFC Center on 6th Avenue and movies that begin with the IFC logo. I am thrilled to be working with Scott Shooman and everyone at IFC who so value the theatrical experience, and I can’t wait for audiences to see ‘Skincare,’” Peters said.

“Skincare” was produced by Jonathan Schwartz and Logan Lerman through Schwartz’s Jalapeño Goat banner, along with ILBE in association with WWPS.TV. The acquisition deal was negotiated by Scott Shooman for IFC Films and WME, UTA, Chris Perez, and Natalie Locke for the filmmakers.

“Skincare” looks to deliver a compelling and suspenseful experience, anchored by Elizabeth Banks and a talented supporting cast.
