James Franco To Direct & Star In Shel Silverstein Biopic

On the heels of his work on the critically acclaimed The Disaster Artist, which chronicled the making of one of the best worst movies ever made, James Franco is on board for a film based on a man who made GOOD content. According to Yahoo!, he is set to helm and star in a flick based on the life of Shel Silverstein, the famous kid’s book author, cartoonist, and lyricist.

There is little known about the film itself other than that Franco was drawn to the “drama of Silverstein’s journey and the humor that is part of it.” We expect to be a little off the wall, given the material Silverstein produced in his life.

If you’re like me, you likely grew up with worn copies of books like A Light In The Attack and Falling Up lying around the house. These books of poems and drawings were strange in nature, and it’d be interesting to see that incorporated somewhat into the film (perhaps not entirely unlike what Ben Stiller accomplished with The Secret Life of Walter Mitty).

As mentioned above, Franco is fresh off of The Disaster Artist, and with that, there is a lot of renewed enthusiasm and appreciation from his work, both as a director and actor.

Is this a right move for Franco as a filmmaker, and is he a good fit to adapt and star in the film about the world famous poet? Let us know your thoughts down below!
