The roles of Joel and Ellie cast for The Last of Us TV series. The show is being developed by Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions, The Mighty Mint, and original game developer Naughty Dog. Shortly after THR revealed that Bella Ramsay (Game of Thrones) was cast as Ellie, Deadline also revealed that Joel would be played by Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian).
The Last of Us TV series will be based upon the game of the same name. The Last of Us was a phenomenon when it first released on the PlayStation 3, and drove home Sony’s branding as the console for single player, story focused games. The game was re-released for PS4 and has since spawned a sequel game starring Ellie herself.
The story of The Last of Us takes around 20 years after civilization has been destroyed by a deadly pandemic. Joel, a smuggler is hired to escort 14 year old Ellie out of a quarantine zone. However, Joel and Ellie’s journey turns into an epic quest for survival across the U.S. as Ellie may be the key to curing this pandemic.

Pedro Pascal is a star on the rise, and if you read LRM, you know who he is. Recently starring in The Mandalorian to critical and fan acclaim, Pascal looks set to jump into this new franchise. Whereas Bella Ramsay you may not quite be so familiar with. Most recently Ramsay appeared as a minor character within His Dark Materials Season 2. However, she will likely be most remembered by fans for portraying fiery Lady Lyanna Mormont in the final three seasons of Game of Thrones.
Craig Mazin (Chernobyl) will co-write the story with game creator Neil Druckman. The pair will also executive produce the series, and Kantemir Balagov will helm the pilot. Production is set to begin this Summer, so perhaps we could be seeing The Last of Us sometime in 2022?
