John Rambo Starts Production in Thailand

Before the events of First Blood, John Rambo delves deeper into the complex character that makes Rambo a war survivalist.

With a new lead starring Noah Centineo (Street Fighter) as the one-man fighting machine, Jalmari Helander (Sisu, Sisu: Road to Revenge) will be at the helm for this upcoming action film.

Lionsgate announced its start of production in Thailand with Millennium Media, Templeton Media, and AGBO.

Also, the studios revealed more cast members joining Centineo with yao (Sinners), Jasoh Tobin (A Thousand Blows, Warrior), Quincy Isaiah (Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty), Jefferson White (Yellowstone, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping), and Tayme Thapthimthong (The White Lotus).

The full plot is still under wraps, but it will delve deeper into the roots and experiences that shaped this character.

“When I was eleven, I saw First Blood for the first time, and it changed my life. Rambo wasn’t just a film to me—it stayed with me growing up and was a defining influence on why I wanted to become a filmmaker,” stated Helander. “As we begin production on the origin of John Rambo, we’re going back to the beginning. This is Rambo stripped down, raw, and real—a survival story about endurance, persistence, and lost innocence. It’s an honor to shape this next chapter with deep respect for the character and the legacy, and to bring audiences the start of John Rambo’s journey.”

The filming locations will be set across Thailand, including Bangkok, Krabi, Phang Nga, and Kanchanaburi.

The release date for John Rambo has not announced at this time.
