Lots of stuff going on today that is keeping Warner Bros. in the negative light of the media. One thing we did not expect was a release date for the Todd Phillips’ Joker sequel. According to Deadline, Joker: Folie À Deux is scheduled to be released on October 4, 2024. This comes from a recent update in Comscore.
Warner Bros. had already held that date for a previously untitled DC project. But it at least fills in a name for the time being. Back in 2019, Joker was released in October to a record domestic opening release of $96.2 million. Then overall it became the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time at $1.07 billion. Then it went on to win two Academy Awards. One for Best Actor for star Joaquin Phoenix. The other for Original Music Score for the work of Hildur Guðnadóttir.
Back in June, we had seen the cover of the screenplay for Joker: Folie À Deux via a social media post from Phillips. As well as an image showing Phoenix reading over the screenplay. The name of the sequel comes from a French reference for a medical term pertaining to a mental disorder that affects two or more people. It was also rumored that Lady Gaga was being courted to possibly play a Harley Quinn-type character.
