When I first realized that Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle would be hitting the weekend after Star Wars: The Last Jedi hit theaters, I was convinced that someone over at Columbia Pictures would get fired for placing it so close to that juggernaut.
However, all these weeks later, the film has grossed $406 million worldwide, and according to Variety, has even taken in $200 million domestically. While this may not seem like a whole lot, this movie was made on a respectable $90 million budget. As a result, it’s already well within the profitable range.

Plus, with there still being a few weeks until its next big competition (perhaps Maze Runner: The Death Cure), there is plenty of time for both it and Star Wars: The Last Jedi to rack up the box office dollars until them. In addition, it’s also worth noting, that over the past few days, Jumanji has actually been outperforming Star Wars with its weekday box office numbers.
This seems to imply that audiences are warming up to this fun, action-packed family movie and telling their friends to go check it out. All in all, this spells good news for Jumanji, and we can’t help but wonder if it’ll beat out Star Wars: The Last Jedi at this upcoming weekend at the box office. We’ll have to wait and see.
