Kevin Smith’s Masters Of The Universe Anime Gets STACKED Voice Cast

I ain’t gonna lie. He-Man and the Masters of the Universe isn’t really my jam. Even though series like The New Adventures of He-Man aired when I was younger, I didn’t really catch on. As such, my exposure to the toys, the characters, and the mythology are largely secondary: through memes, pop culture, and the like. So the fact that we’re seeing the property rebooted on several different fronts really doesn’t do much for me intrinsically, but I have been impressed by the talent involved.

I thought She-Ra and the Princess of Power looked like an interesting reboot, even if it wasn’t for me, and that fact that we’re getting three separate He-Man projects is intriguing. In addition to the CG-animated reboot and live-action film on Netflix, we’re also getting an “anime” series, as it’s being coined, from filmmaker Kevin Smith.

That latter series is called Masters of the Universe: Revelation, and it is perhaps the most intriguing of the pack. Not only will it have a more anime-esque style (likely looking more similar to the original series than its counterparts), but Smith’s involvement is quite a bit unexpected. While I haven’t really liked any of his movies lately, I do wonder how he’ll do with an actual brand. he’s always been hard on himself when it comes to his potential in established properties, but when given restrictions, I imagine he’d actually shine.

Now, not only will we be getting a 2D-animated series, but it’ll be fronted by a stacked voice cast that includes Mark Hamill, Lena Headey, Chris Wood, Liam Cunningham, and Sarah Michelle Gellar.

Quite perfectly, Hamill will be playing Skeletor. Headey will play Evil-Lyn, Skeletor’s right-hand woman. Wood will be playing Prince Adam (aka He-Man), and Gellar and Cunningham will play Teel and Mant-At-Arms, He-Man’s cohorts.

Also starring in the show are (takes breath) Stephen Root, Diedrich Bader, Griffin Newman, Tiffany Smith, Henry Rollins, Alan Oppenheimer, Susan Eisenberg, Alicia Silverstone, Justin Long, Jason Mewes, Phil LaMarr, Tony Todd, Cree Summer, Kevin Michael Richardson, Kevin Conroy, and Harley Quinn Smith.

“I cannot believe the lineup of talent I get to play with,” said Smith. “The incredible, star-studded cast that Mattel’s Rob David and Netflix’s Ted Biaselli assembled for our Masters of the Universe series will let any lifelong He-Man fan know we’re treating this cartoon seriously and honoring the legendary world of Eternia with A-list talent. Chris, Sarah, Mark, Lena and the other amazing actors and actresses have given performances so powerful and real in a show that features a talking giant green tiger. With these fantastic performers behind our characters, it’ll be crazy easy to immerse yourself in the swords and sorcery of our epic sci-fi soap opera.”

Unlike the rebooted CG series, this animated show will act as a continuation of the original series, resolving loose plot threads, pretty much picking up where they were left off decades ago.
