James Gunn confirms his Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow WILL have a Lex and Superman team up to face a bigger threat. For now there’s nothing else coming from Gunn as you can expect on his next film. However, we do know the plan is the begin production in April, 2026 for a 2027 release.
Already confirmed to return are Lex, (Hoult) Clark (Corenswet), Lois (Brosnahan) and there are rumors at least Jimmy Olsen is back. Plus we have teases from Isabella Merced that Hawkgirl will return. That could mean we have the whole Justice Gang and maybe even Aaron Pierre (Jon Stewart).
Here’s what Gunn told Howard Stern,
“It’s a story about Lex Luthor and Superman having to work together to a certain degree against a much, much bigger threat. It’s more complicated than that but that’s a big part of it.”
“[Therefore] It’s as much a Lex movie as it is a Superman movie. I’ve loved working with Nicholas Hoult. I relate to the character of Lex, sadly. I really wanted to create something extraordinary with the two of them, I just love the script so much.”

The rumors/speculation about this film were clearly true, because this is pretty much what what was rumored from the day Gunn announced it, with the Lex and Clark artwork.
There’s a ton of speculation (not rumor) from fans and outlets that this bigger threat could be Brainiac. I have no idea if it is, or he’ll be kept till later? However, I’m interested to see who could be a bigger threat than Superman. There are also rumors that both Supergirl and Lobo may show up here. If that’s true, that would be three massive big hitters, plus the Justice Gang and Lex. I guess we will find out?
