Marvel’s Kevin Feige Teases Avengers: Infinity War Secrets

We’re less than one year until Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War slams into theaters everywhere — seriously, are there any theaters on the planet that won’t be showing this movie? Marvel is still closely guarding the plot details, but we certainly know that it will involve Thanos (Josh Brolin), the Infinity Gems, and Spider-Man…look, I know you know this, but not everyone’s a comic nerd like us, OK? Rumor has it that a trailer will debut with Thor: Ragnarok, but that’s a long ways off.

We do know that this is a massive film with upwards of 60 Marvel characters appearing; including at least one scene containing 32 characters alone. I know this is true because there’s a link to that very article right below — it’s a good article, you should read it!

Is there any new info out there for us starved Avengers fans? According to ComicBook.com: Yes! Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige recently told them that events in the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming, Thor: Ragnarok, and Black Panther will “very heavily” influence Avengers: Infinity War…well, that’s a whole lotta nothing; but wait, there’s more from Feige:

“As Iron Man and Captain America influenced the first Avengers. More so than the movies leading into Age of Ultron, even. They really build up to that.”

It may not be a whole lot, but we have to wonder if that means these films leading up to Infinity War will be increasingly reliant on each other. Feige is right, prior to Age of Ultron, most of the Avengers were off doing their own thing, and then all of a sudden they were together, as if none of it had happened. Hopefully this’ll lead into a more cohesive experience.

We’re sure to learn more about Avengers: Infinity War at next month’s San Diego Comic-Con (or there could be violence). We also know that the film’s production is wrapping next month, so there’s really no good reason for Marvel to delay a teaser trailer…but they will, because hype.

What can we conclude by reading the tea leaves and thinking really hard? I’ll go first: Hulk and Thor will find their way back to Earth (with any luck, Hulk will actually become a speaking role, you know like in ALL of the comics!); Vibranium, which is only found in Wakanda, will become a pivotable McGuffin in the fight against Thanos and his Infinity Gauntlet McGuffin; A reminder: No Defenders characters, as has been previously stated (so how will they get to 60+ characters? I call shenanigans); Captain Marvel will make her debut, as has also been previously reported; Spider-Man will play a key role that sets-up a Homecoming sequel — I don’t actually know that this is true, but c’mon!

It has also been widely speculated that somebody important (possible several somebodies) will die. Avengers: Infinity War leads directly to Avengers 4, and the end of Phase 3. There’s a very good chance that Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans hand-off the mantles of Iron Man and Cap, respectively. It’s also possible that there is no Iron Man or Captain America in Phase 4, or the Avengers going forward…Hey, this is the norm in comics; the second comic book iteration of the Avengers was: Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, Giant Man, Wasp, Hercules, Quicksilver, Black Knight and Black Widow — chew on that for awhile!

I think it’s fair to say that the next two Avengers movies will completely flip the MCU chess board in a monumental way. As much as I love Cap and Iron Man (and Thor and Hulk too), a big shake-up is probably good for the MCU…it’s not like we’re going to stop watching, amirite? That’s it, I’m all out of semicolons and ellipses for today, LRM readers.
