Myst Video Game Series Acquired For Film And TV

Oh, boy. It’s feeling like the ‘90s again, I don’t care who knows it! If you’re a ‘90s kid, you likely grew up with plenty of CD-ROM games. Maybe a bit of Journeyman, Math Blaster, Treasure Mountain, or even Myst, the first-person adventure game that shaped an entire generation of fantasy and puzzle lovers. Now, one of those properties could very well be making its way to the big or small screen (or both!).

According to Yahoo!, Village Roadshow Entertainment Group has acquired the rights to the game. This is an Australian-American co-producer that helped bring such films as The Matrix and Sherlock Holmes to the big screen. The goal here is to develop a “multi-platform universe including film, scripted and unscripted television content.”

The imagination really sets loose on the type of content that can be made. My mind goes to a more adult-oriented Jumanji-type story — or maybe a series where people are put on an island full of crazy puzzles that audiences can solve alongside the contestants. It’s a bit odd, but there is real potential there, even if the narrative has never been a strong suit of Myst.

What do you think of this idea? Do you think Myst will make a good multimedia property? Let us know your thoughts down below!
