Sandman is one of the many countless properties that’s been in the works over in Hollywood for generations. Seriously, I think it’s been decades that they’ve been trying to take a crack at it. Most recently, Joseph Gordon-Levitt was attached to get the job done. In fact, it was back in 2016 that he finally dropped out of the project, which was being envisioned as a big screen take.
And that was the main problem. In a later interview, then-attached screenwriter Eric Heisserer had expressed the view that a TV series would likely be the best way to go. But would networks actually be willing to pony up the cash to make it happen? Well, things have changed since then, and TV is HUUUUGE, and it’s now resulted in this being a possibility.

According to THR, Netflix is teaming with Warner Bros. Television to make a live-action series happen. This will apparently be the most expensive series DC Entertainment has done. On board to write and showrun is The Catch’s Allan Heinberg. Author Neil Gaiman and David S. Goyer will be executive producing.
Despite how long Hollywood has been attempting to crack this nut that is Sandman, this is the first time it’s been developed as a TV series.
