Netflix Orders Dramedy Series Adaptation Of Daybreak Graphic Novel

Netflix is quickly becoming the home for the majority of all comic book and graphic novel adaptations. First, it was the Marvel’s Defenders crew, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. That opened the door for The Punisher. Then, Netflix went and purchased the rights to all of Mark Millar’s Millarworld, a deal that will turn the legendary writer’s stories into films and original series’. After that came the series order and revamping of the Joe Hill hit Locke & Key.

And Netflix shows no signs of stopping anyone soon.

The insanely popular and successful streaming service has just issued a 10-episode series order for the dramedy adaptaion of the graphic novel Daybreak. The announcement came Thursday through Netflix’s own media center website. The series is created by Brad Peyton (Frontier, Rampage), who will direct and executive produce, and Aron Eli Coleite (Locke & Key, Heroes), who will executive produce and act as showrunner for the series.

The synopsis of the comic is as follows:

Based on the graphic novel by Brian Ralph, the subversive dark comedy Daybreak finds 17 year old high school outcast Josh searching for his missing girlfriend Sam in post-apocalyptic Glendale, California. Joined by a ragtag group of misfits including a pyromaniac 12 year old Angelica and Josh’s former high school bully Wesley, now turned pacifist samurai, Josh tries to stay alive amongst the horde of Mad Max-style gangs (evil jocks, cheerleaders turned Amazon warriors), zombie-like creatures called Ghoulies, and everything else this brave new world throws at him.

No news has yet been released as to when production will begin.
