According to the latest reports, Paramount are set to make a bid to buy WB/Discovery, in what many will see as a shock. It was not all that long ago WB looked at the reverse. Though that deal never materialized as we can see.
According to The Wall Street Journal, the bid will be for the entire company including its cable networks (HBO) The Warner Bros. Pictures movie studio of course, which includes DC Studios.
This all comes just weeks after the Ellison’s Skydance bought out Paramount. This purchase may well push Ellison’s new studio ahead of Disney. But many, many questions remain for how this new company would be structured.
It’s going to be expensive, and the new owners, if a deal goes through would want to generate cash quickly and steadily.
What would this mean for DC Studios?
Well, chances are, as long as the DCU remains a success, I can’t see any reason they’d want to start again with different studio heads. That’s money on the table and plans well underway.

HBO? Perhaps the middling Paramount+ gets scrapped and HBO/Max become the two services, or maybe one bug streamer? Again though, HBO is a cut above Paramount+, so why scrap the brand recognition. We’ve got Season 1 of Harry Potter coming and plans for 6 more season after that.
One can’t help but think that Paramount are the ones punching up here in terms of brands, franchises and platforms. However, what matters is who is willing to spend the cash to make it happen.
Be interesting to see how this plays out over the next few months. However, even if a deal is agreed, look how long it took Disney to buy Fox.
What do you think as Paramount/Skydance looks set to become Paramount/Skydance/WB/D? Thoughts below.
