Looks like it’s the end of the road for Teresa Mendoza.
The popular USA Network’s Queen of the South returns for its fifth and final season on Wednesday, April 7 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
The show is based on the world’s best-selling novel “La Reina del Sur” by Arturo Perez-Revert. It follows Teresa Mendoza, who fled Mexico from a drug cartel to America and eventually came to power for her own drug-trafficking empire.
Alice Braga portrayed the lead character, Teresa Mendoza, in all five seasons.
For several years, the show ranked as USA Network’s original series amongst the 18-49 and 25-54 demographics. It was even a very popular series for its sister network of Telemundo.

“We could not be prouder of our entire cast and crew that joined us on this magnificent journey,” said executive producers Dailyn Rodriguez, Ben Lobato, and David Friendly. “Queen of the South began shooting in Mexico City, brought us to faraway places like Malta and Colombia, and finally landed in New Orleans. We cannot wait to share the explosive final season with our devoted fans. And, of course, we could not have made the show without the talented Alice Braga, who brought our queen to life.”
The last season ended with a cliffhanger of the return and injured James (Peter Gadiot), one of Teresa’s love interests. In season five, Molly Burnett, who plays Kelly Anne, a member of Mendoza’s cartel, is now promoted as a series regular. Pasha Lychnikoff joined as a recurring role as an underground oligarch and war criminal.
The network released a trailer for the long-awaited fifth season below. It looks like one final cartel war is happening with someone left to be on top.
