Ralph Breaks The Internet: Fans Are Interested In A Disney Princesses Crossover

I loved Wreck It Ralph! It is my favorite animated film, and one of my favorite films period. Ralph Breaks the Internet was missing something, but most unnecessary sequels are. However, it was still a fun film. One of the most popular scenes from that movie involved the Disney Princesses. Vanellope finds herself in a room with princesses of the past and comedy ensues. There’s some really funny jokes there, but also some emasculating jokes that seem to be too popular in movies today. Regardless of your opinion on such scenes, there seems to be a large group of people that like the idea of a movie involving the princesses together.

Directors Rich Moore and Phil Johnston recently spoke with the A.V. Club and Moore had this to say:

“It has definitely had an interesting response not just here in the States, but everywhere we’ve gone in the world promoting the movie. When you’re in Stockholm and they’re saying like, ‘Have you considered doing a movie just about the Princesses?’ I think it’s an idea worth exploring, because everywhere we go, we hear that kind of response. ’Oh my God, I love the Princesses like that.’ Not just the scene with them meeting Vanellope and talking about what it means to be a princess, but then to see them in action at the end. It does feel like there is something to that. People are finally seeing the princesses do what you always believed they could do, but you’ve never seen it before.”

I feel that last part takes away from what accomplishments the princesses have had in their movies. Mulan, Merida, and Moana (all ‘M’ names by the way) all did great physical feats in their films. Often it seems society suffers from an idea I’ve heard called ‘the history of now’ and they seem to forget great progressive things from the past. It’s like forgetting about strong female characters like Ellen Ripley and Sarah Connor, LGBT characters like Jack Harkness, or POC characters in science fiction like Martha Jones. Not that those characters are enough, but pretending that current LGBT, POC, or female heroes are pioneers is disingenuous.

I wouldn’t mind an action comedy approach to a princess crossover. Like I stated, I loved Wreck It Ralph and that mentality going into the Disney characters, minus their traditional musical slant of course, could be very entertaining.
