RUMOR: Netflix To Premiere Cloverfield 3 Trailer During Super Bowl?

The talk coming out of Sundance was that Netflix would be acquiring Cloverfield 3 (rumored to be titled Cloverfield Station). Now we’re getting a new report that kind of takes that news and presents it as an assumption: It sounds like Netflix has the rights to the movie.

According to Deadline, Netflix is potentially set to drop its first trailer during the Super Bowl — or for those of you who don’t know/care about the Super Bowl, February 4, 2018. That’s right. If this new rumor is to be believed, we are to get our first trailer in less than one week’s time.

Sadly, it’s not incredibly clear whether or not this means Netflix will drop the trailer on TV, or will just drop it online during the Super Bowl. The way this report is framed, it sounds like a legit Super Bowl commercial, but given that this Netflix deal seems to have been done very quickly, them committing to a Super Bowl spot this late in the game seems unlikely. Then again, it’s not clear how far back the deal could have been inked, so who knows?

Cloverfield 3 is set to be the third in an anthological-serial hybrid film series that started with Cloverfield and continued on with 10 Cloverfield Lane. Each film tells its own unique story that still manages to tie into the main plot of these monsters ending up on Earth. The first one was presented as a found footage monster movie, and the second as a claustrophobic thriller. Cloverfield 3 sounds to be the most sci-fi of the three, taking place on a space station when some strange shenanigans take place down.
