Scary Movie | Review

Marlon Wayans plays Shorty in Scary Movie from Paramount Pictures.

The audience has spoken for the success of Scary Movie on its opening weekend. Regardless of what most critics had to say. Scary Movie pushed the envelope applying its comedy with current times. Laughs we can really use during times of uptightness. The comedy some of us grew up and enjoyed for its pure entertainment. I was happy to see the film didn’t hold back. I watched the film in a room filled with press and they were having a time laughing out loud. There were some jokes that didn’t land as strong, surprisingly because they were on the political side but hey there was comedy for everyone.

One thing I did find were some scenes that may have been a little over dramatic from the OGs of Scary Movie. But it was not a deal breaker, they were probably just as excited as we were for them to be together again. Overall, it is not a film to take seriously and that is what made it a great laugh. It’s not a film to go in with a critical state of mind. In that case it would be best to go with another film.

The Synopsis

Twenty-six years after outrunning a suspiciously familiar masked killer (“Ghostface”), the Core Four are back in the killer’s crosshairs and no horror movie IP is safe. Marlon Wayans (“Shorty”), Shawn Wayans (“Ray”), Anna Faris (“Cindy”), and Regina Hall (“Brenda”) reunite in Scary Movie alongside returning favorites and fresh faces to slash through reboots, remakes, requels, prequels, sequels, spin-offs, elevated horror, origin stories, anything with the word legacy in it, and every “final chapter” that absolutely isn’t final. Nothing is sacred. No trope survives. Every line gets crossed.  The Wayans are back to cancel the Cancel Culture.

Scary Movie is currently in theaters.
