Seth MacFarlane Doesn’t Think The Disney-Fox Deal Will Change Much
Ever since Disney announced their intentions to acquire most of 21st Century Fox, some moviegoers and analysts have been concerned with what this would mean for all the content at Fox.
Sure, big franchises like Avatar would get absorbed into the Disney machine, but what about the R-rated stuff? What about all the other older-audience-targeted stuff? Would any of that suffer under the regime of Disney? Would Fox lose all of its identity in favor of becoming one with the family-friendly brand we’ve grown to love?
Of course, the deal still hasn’t gone through yet (the Department of Justice still needs to make sure it’s okay), and we won’t really know what will happen until it does, but there’s at least one big name in Hollywood who doesn’t think it’ll change much. Speaking at the TCA, Seth McFarlane discussed what he thought would happen.
“I don’t expect much to change,” he said, more specifically regarding his own work. He then pointed to the fact that back in the 80s, Disney let its Touchstone brand be its own thing. “Disney obviously is its brand. I don’t think a lot is going to change.”
This probably sums up things best, as far as my own personal perspective. Yes, there are some already family-friendly properties that will likely be absorbed into Disney, and they’ll likely run with some of the X-Men and Fantastic Four characters. However, it will also likely they will let Fox continue to handle their properties as is.
