I guess we’re getting to the point where I’ll have to start accepting the fact that a new Spawn movie is indeed on the way. Character creator Todd McFarlane has been very vocal about the film’s slow progress over the past several years, and it had gotten to the point where I thought this would be another Crow-like film, where it never really happens.
However, over the past several months, we’ve seen some real progress on the flick, with McFarlane teaming up with the now-famous Blumhouse Productions to make a dark, grounded, and relatively low budget film with McFarlane himself at the helm.

Now, according to That Hashtag Show, they have offered the lead role of Al Simmons to Amazing Spider-Man 2 actor Jamie Foxx. This is very interesting as the actor was pushing for the role five or so years ago. With that in mind, I don’t see a version of this where he DOESN’T take it — unless perhaps the compensation isn’t enough.
Also of note is that the character Twitch Williams will reportedly be in the film in a strong supporting role.
Spawn was originally supposed to hit production this past February, but from the looks of it, they’ve already passed that production date. I suppose it makes sense though, as McFarlane will want to make sure everything is perfect before they fully commit it to celluloid.
