According to a new article Superman will be a success if it makes $500M or more, meaning spin-off’s, Justice League and more. That’s some of the many details covered in a new report by The Wall Street Journal. The article is paywalled, but if you just want to big ticket bullet points, I got you.
According to WSJ, Superman‘s budget was around $250M and thus for the movie to be considered a success WB will be looking for $500M or more. If Superman does that reach that figure, which seems likely based on what we see so far. Then the next phase of the DCU can begin. Supergirl is already coming next year and the article says Clayface will begin filming this August, probably also due by the latter end of 2026.

That’s the yearly plan as far as WSJ reports. Two movies per year, multiple TV series and at least one animated project.
As for spin-off’s? The report says DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran are considering TV shows set around both Jimmy Olsen and Mister Terrific, both who appear in Superman. We already have Peacemaker and Lanterns coming and both will be very different tonally from Superman.
In a recent interview with EW, Guy Gardner actor Nathan Fillion said he’s never used as many F bombs as he does in the Lanterns series.
The WSJ report says ultimately, the plan is to establish the iconic characters of the DC Universe. Then, have a Justice League event movie unite them all together. Seems like a decent idea, if only someone had thought of all this earlier at DC?
Meanwhile, the RT score for Superman has fallen to 82% at time of writing. However the audience score, with thousands of reviews now is sitting at a very good 96%. I hope to see Superman this weekend, if my son comes home in time. However, from what I see online, those that have seen it, like it or love it.
