Rocky Balboa has gone on to be one of the most enduring characters in film history. And I don’t mean enduring in the someone like Batman or Superman are enduring, but enduring in that he’s had several complete arcs over the course of his film history. He’s gone through the ’70s, ’80s, ‘2000s, and now 2010s, growing a little bit with every appearance. But it looks like his time has come to an end, as actor Sylvester Stallone revealed.
“Well, this is probably my last rodeo because what I thought happened, and has happened, I never expected,” Stallone shared over a beach bonfire in an Instagram post. “I thought Rocky was over in 2006 [with Rocky Balboa]. And I was very happy with that. Then all of a sudden this young man presented himself and the whole story changed. It went on to a new generation. New problems. New adventures. And I couldn’t be happier as I step back because my story’s been told, there’s a whole new world that’s going to be opening up with the audience, with this generation. Now you [pointing to Michael B. Jordan], have to carry the mantle.”

With that, the mantle has officially been passed on to Michael B. Jordan for him to carry on stories in the ring. Will Creed continue with the same longevity that the Rocky franchise did? We’ll obviously have to wait and see, but somehow, they’ve managed to capture lightning in a bottle once again with this series, and audiences seem just as enthusiastic about it as they ever have.
