The CW Adapting Thriller Novel The Progeny Into A Series

Oh, The CW. The place to go for superhero dramas or stories revolving around good-lucking twenty-somethings running around without shirts. Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with the content there — I love a good chunk of it myself — and I appreciate their willingness to give audiences network-length seasons of their shows in serialized form.

But with each passing season, it’s hard not to wonder if they plan on expanding things more outside of the superhero genre. Luckily, it looks like we have our first look at the next big thing over at the network, and it comes from the pages of a thriller novel series that starts with The Progeny, by Tosca Lee, Deadline reports.

The outlet states the show is currently in development over at the network, and that it will come from Chris Roberts, writer of shows like Orphan Black and Netflix’s Frontier. The series will also be co-produced by Radar Pictures, who is currently producing the ambitious Amazon series The Wheel of Time.

Here is the synopsis of the novel The Progeny:

“Emily Jacobs is the descendant of a serial killer. Now, she’s become the hunted.

She’s on a quest that will take her to the secret underground of Europe and the inner circles of three ancient orders—one determined to kill her, one devoted to keeping her alive, and one she must ultimately save.

Filled with adrenaline, romance, and reversals, The Progeny is the present-day saga of a 400-year-old war between the uncanny descendants of “Blood Countess” Elizabeth Bathory, the most prolific female serial killer of all time, and a secret society dedicated to erasing every one of her descendants. It is a story about the search for self filled with centuries-old intrigues against the backdrop of atrocity and hope.”

Yup, this sounds right up The CW’s alley, and to be honest, I’ll probably be down to check out the first few episodes when it airs. But what about you? Let us know your thoughts down below!
