Yabba dabba doo! You heard that right. That outdated cry of victory is likely on its way back. It’s been a long time since audiences have ventured back to the town of Bedrock, but given its one of those series that seems to come back every couple of decades, so it was only a matter of time. Now, according to Variety, that time is nearly upon us.
The outlet states that Warner Bros. Animation and Brownstone Productions are working together to create a new primetime adult animated comedy series based on the original concept and characters of The Flintstones. As of this writing, there is no network attached, but I personally wouldn’t be surprised if this ended up on HBO Max (though if they are aiming for “primetime,” that may go against that spirit.
Personally, this is a great idea. I especially love the fact that they’re going the adult animation route. While The Flintstones is something that generally appealed to us when we were younger, its comedy style is one that is easily adapted for older audiences, and I can see it airing alongside the likes of Bob’s Burgers in today’s climate.
