Warner Bros. Met With Michael B. Jordan To Play Superman

Try as they might, Warner Bros. can’t seem to nail down Superman on film. At least not in recent years. Sure, the character, as played by Christopher Reeve, became a classic film staple, but the character has been rebooted twice on film over the past 15 years, and many times more if you count the various TV incarnations of varying success. Even though Henry Cavill is arguably the strongest actor and fit for the character, there are plenty who take umbrage with his take on the Man of Steel.

So, how can they have this pantheon of ethics actually be relevant in today’s world? Well, that’s what they’ve been trying to figure out over at the studio. As has been rumored, they’ve spoken with director J.J. Abrams, and earlier this year, there was even a meeting with Michael B. Jordan to play a new take on the character. However, at this time, Jordan isn’t ready to commit due to his busy schedule. If it were to happen, though, insiders say 2023 is the soonest it could happen, since there is no script and no director.

This report comes courtesy of Variety, and while very little of it is new information, per se, it is a confirmation of the rumors we’ve been hearing for months — especially the part surrounding Jordan’s potential involvement in the flick.

This past February, when asked about the rumors, Jordan himself even debunked them, telling Oprah Winfrey, “Just being under that microscope of being picked apart and compared to so many different versions of Superman, I would rather do something original.”

At this point, I don’t think it’s a surprise to anyone that actors or filmmakers have had to actively lie to keep things secret. It’s pretty much become par for the course in the name of not rocking the boat or ruining deals, but all this does confirm that, in spite of Cavill’s desire to continue playing Superman, the studio is actively exploring different options.
