Weinstein Was Trying To Get Money From Netflix Before Scandal Hit

According to PageSix, former movie mogul Harvey Weinstein allegedly went to Netflix in hopes of obtaining a large sum of  money weeks before his sexual harassment scandal broke.

An unnamed source told PageSix Weinstein went to the streaming giant looking to sell part of his movie catalogue in exchange for $25 million. Here is what the source had to say:

“Clearly Harvey didn’t go to Netflix saying he needed ‘hush money.’ He put it into a business context, saying he was looking to sell the rights to parts of his catalog. But they were wise to decline.”

I am sure that hush money comment is the first thing to pop into everyone’s mind when reading this story, given how things turned out. A second unnamed source says Netflix isn’t the only company Weinstein went to for money:

“It wasn’t just Netflix that Harvey went to for money, it was a number of different companies.”

That is one side of the story, the other side comes from Weinstein’s representatives who denied the disgraced movie mogul ever went to Netflix, saying it was “Untrue. Nonsense.”

A spokesman for Netflix also denies that Weinstein came to the company for money:

“Harvey Weinstein never asked Netflix for a loan and Netflix has never paid a loan out to Mr. Weinstein.”
