Above Suspicion Trailer Has Emilia Clarke As FBI Informant’s in Scandalous Affair

FBI informants struggle to be star witnesses, because of conflicts due to loyalty, danger, and trust. In Above Suspicion, a young woman tries help an FBI informant. Instead, she falls in love that triggers a series of events that may destroy everyone’s lives. 

Emilia Clarke stars in the lead role of Susan Smith, the embattled FBI informant. The rest of the cast includes Jack Huston, Sophie Lowe, Johnny Knoxville, Austin Hebert, and Thora Birch. Philip Noyce (The Quiet American) directed the movie. Chris Gerolmo wrote the adapted screenplay based on the book by Joe Sharkey. 

Here’s the official synopsis: 

Based on the true story of one of the most notorious crimes in FBI history, this gritty crime-thriller Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) as Susan Smith, a young woman desperate to escape a seedy life of crime and drugs in a Kentucky coal mining town. When a newly minted FBI agent named Mark Putnam (Fargo’s Jack Huston) recruits Susan as his informant for a high-profile case, she believes her bad luck may finally be changing. But as Susan and Putnam’s relationship deepens, so does the danger, setting them both on a collision course with deadly consequences.

Phillip Noyce is one of the top directors in the industry with notable films such as The Quiet AmericanThe GiverClear and Present DangerSalt, and Sliver. However, this may more be a slow burn crime story, in which the pacing may be closer to The Quiet American and The Giver. Nonetheless, without giving out spoilers, it’s based on a true story that shook the law enforcement agency due to the scandal. 

Above Suspicion is available in select theaters and video on demand starting on May 14. Then the movie is released on Blu-ray and DVD on May 18.
