Dora Madison is one of the many amazing actors to grace the screen of DARK/WEB who stars in Episode 7 “Viral”! In 2009 Dora got her first big role in television when she joined the cast of the hit show Friday Night Lights playing the character Becky Sproles. She has since gone on to a successful career where Dora has starred as paramedic Chili on Chicago Fire, along with memorable recurring roles in Dexter, The Lying Game, and Star Crossed. Dora has also seen her movie career start to take off, she starred alongside James Marsden and Karl Urban in The Loft and has an upcoming project Bliss where Dora is in the lead role. I was able to speak with her where she discusses her character Dorothy and what lies ahead in the future. If you haven’t checked out DARK/WEB on Amazon Prime Video you can do so by clicking here and be sure to leave a review! Also, check in this coming Wednesday, 09/18 when Dora takes over DARK/WEB‘s Instagram, ready to answer any questions you all have for her!
You have quite the impressive resume being involved in such series such as Dexter, Friday Night Lights, The Loft, and Bliss just to name a few. What drew you to the role of Dorthy Weaver and being a part of the DARK/WEB team?
I really loved the concept of how your “I am” statements shape your reality. Dorothy’s narrative of herself morphed into a very dark space and consumed her so much so that she saw a monster when she looked in the mirror. When it turns out everything was fine and she was perfectly healthy it’s heartbreaking because her own shame is actually what killed her. So it’s a cautionary tale of taking your thoughts captive before the run away with you.
Dorthy appears in Chapter 7 “Viral” and anyone who has seen it has had to feel for Dorthy. She is such a sweet, down to earth individual, and what happens to her is heartbreaking. In what ways did you prepare for your role?
I’m a pretty shame-filled self-deprecating person naturally so it wasn’t that hard to tap into that. Haha
How was the role of Dorthy different than other roles you have previously taken?
Well, I’m used to playing sweet and innocent but the chance of taking a deep dive into the abyss of madness was pretty therapeutic.
Where do you draw your inspiration for your roles? Are there any specific individuals you look to?
I look to the world around me often. Michael, our writer-director is incredibly knowledgeable concerning cinema. For this project, in particular, he sent me several films for inspiration like Roman Polanski’s Repulsion so we definitely paid homage to some classic films in a Millennial setting. Every role is different but I love knowing what inspires my director because it gives me boundaries to play in and push past in my performance.
What current projects are you working on?
We’re still touring with BLISS by Joe Begos which is another descent into mania and violence which has been a really cool ride to be on. Next weekend is the world premiere of another Begos picture called VFW. That one is a wild gory action thriller and I’m playing a gutter punk villain with blood lust. Oh god noticing a theme here. I did quite a bit of horror last year. I also began developing my own series I’m hoping to finance and shoot in the coming year.
