One of the most timeless and iconic families in entertainment is without a doubt The Addams Family. I believe this to be true due to the fact that they were created back in the later thirties by cartoonist Charles Addams. Then featured on several television series since the sixties. They are probably most well known for their two films in the nineties. The Addams Family and Addams Family Values. Most recently we have seen them in animated form in… well… The Addams Family. A sequel to this film is on its way from Universal.
Now it looks like this seemingly bizarre and frightening family (for some) is ready to head back to the small screen. MGM TV which has the rights to the IP is ready to finance the development of the series and they have just the right man to helm this project. In what would be his first major live-action TV series, the one and only Tim Burton is looking to develop the Addams Family series.
Currently, Burton is negotiating to executive produce and possibly direct the entire series. Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, who developed and executive produced Smallville, will be the head writers and serve as showrunners. Also, they would share the executive producer duties with Burton. It is also said that currently there is a bidding war for the series. With who other than Netflix on the top of the list of winning.
The series is rumored to be a live-action series. It would be set in the present-day and be seen from the perspective of Wednesday Addams. In what this modern-day would look like from her perspective.
As long as they keep the Addams family true to their characters as others have done in the past I will be happy with it. I couldn’t think of anyone more appropriate to take on this project than Burton as we have seen him handle films like Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, and Dark Shadows. I am excited to see this be developed.
