Amazon has announced that it is partnering with Paramount Television to create a series based on Paramount’s 1997 horror/sci-fi film Event Horizon. As of now, the only news that exists regarding the series is that it will executive produced and directed by Adam Wingard—as per reporting by Variety.
Wingard’s resume behind the camera includes directing the horror films You’re Next, The Guest, 2016’s Blair Witch, and Death Note. Wingard is currently at the helm for the upcoming Godzilla vs Kong, due to be released sometime in 2020. Currently, Wingard is set to direct the series and executive produce alongside Jeremy Platt and the original film’s producers Larry Gordon and Lloyd Levin.

In case you have forgotten the original film, here’s the synopsis provided by Variety:
The titled [Event Horizon] referred to a spaceship that disappeared after testing an experimental gravity drive capable of creating an artificial black hole that was meant to allow the ship to travel to distant points in the galaxy. A rescue crew and the gravity drive’s inventor are sent to investigate after the ship mysteriously reappears, only to discover that the ship traveled to a hellish dimension outside of the known universe that infects it with a sinister sentience, leading to multiple deaths.
The original film was directed by Paul W.S. Anderson (Mortal Kombat, Resident Evil) and written by Philip Eisner (Mutant Chronicles). Laurence Fishburne (The Matrix) starred as the captain of the crew with Sam Neil (Jurassic Park) as the gravity drive inventor. No word yet as to when production will start, who will star, and whether this series will be a continuation or a reboot. As a fan of the original film, this writer will be keeping an ear out for any new information Amazon and Paramount Television releases in the future.
