Angel Studios has released the official trailer for Zero A.D.: The Birth of Christ, a new historical epic that opens in theaters December 11.
Alejandro Monteverde (Sound of Freedom) directs the film, based on a screenplay he co-wrote with Leo Severino and Rod Barr. The cast includes Deva Cassel (The Beautiful Summer), Jim Caviezel (The Passion of the Christ), Sam Worthington (Avatar, Terminator: Salvation), Gael García Bernal (Mozart in the Jungle), Ben Mendelsohn (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), and Jamie Ward. Leo Severino and Eduardo Verástegui produced the film.

The film is set in a decaying empire, ruled by a leader consumed by fear. When a star rises over Bethlehem and Christ is born, King Herod’s terror leads to the slaughter of the innocents. Mary must protect the child promised to save the world. As the violence spreads and hope fades, the story turns to what the studio calls the true battle: “not for a throne, but for the soul of mankind.”
The trailer shows the film’s grand scale and emotional weight. It comes just in time for the holiday season, when stories of the Nativity draw the largest audiences.
Zero A.D.: The Birth of Christ opens in theaters nationwide on December 11.
