Ant-Man Star Paul Rudd Uncertain If Third Film Is In The Cards

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is on FIRE. They have been for several years, and it’s hard to even think of a time when audiences legitimately thought one of their movies would actually be a real dud at the box office. More often than not these days, their movies seem to regularly break $1 billion at the box office — and when not, $800 million, for sure. Of course, that’s not legitimately the case, but it certainly feels like it. But there is one of their lower key franchises that has been inching along modestly.

I’m talking about Ant-Man. The first film broke $500 million at the box office, and its sequel, Ant-Man and the Wasp, took in $622.7 million. Given its reported $162 million budget, it’s a solid amount of profit for the flick, but is it enough to guarantee a third outing for the character, even if he was one of the standouts in Avengers: Endgame? Star Paul Rudd doesn’t seem so sure.

“I don’t know,” Rudd said to Yahoo! regarding the possibility of an Ant-Man 3. “You need to make a call to the top brass and start a campaign to make it happen.”

Now, it’s worth reiterating that this is, by no means, a bad-performing franchise. Both movies have made hundreds of millions of dollars in profit for the studio, so why wouldn’t they push forward. Well, as much money as they’re making, there does seem to be much more potential for other properties. Why put in a sure thing $200 million profit when you have countless others that can take in $500 million?

That being said…who knows? The character plays well with others, so perhaps he and the Wasp can be used more in the Hulk-like capacity going forward. Or maybe he was received so well that they opt to take a final crack at him. What would you like to see? Let us know your thoughts down below!
