In a recent interview Anya Taylor-Joy opens up on her role as an Elf in the upcoming The Lord of the Rings movie The Hunt for Gollum. It was only weeks ago that the actress was first rumored for an unknown role in the movie, later confirmed by trades. The film seems to be set both before and during the events of The Fellowship of the Ring from what we know. As for Taylor-Joy’s character, she is called Seren as is described by trades as a “Sindar Elf of the Woodland Realm and a trusted, lethal agent of King Thranduil.” Thranduil will once again be played by Lee Pace, from The Hobbit trilogy.
Speaking in the video as shared below, Taylor-Joy said,
“I mean, I feel like I’ve been an Elf my whole life, so it feels very validating to go and actually do it as a job. I’m a huge fan of Lord of the Rings, I’m a huge fan of Andy Serkis. I think he’s a wonderful man and a wonderful, innovative creator. So I think just being able to be a part of this world and inhabit this character is a dream come true.”

Seren is not a character created by Tolkien, because this films will definitely go into details Tolkien never actually wrote, but told the story of, if that makes sense in his works. Mostly what we know about the ‘current’ events of the film (set during/before The Fellowship of the Ring) are based on what Gandalf told to Frodo of the search for Gollum and the little extras covered in the book’s appendices.
However, it also seems like Gollum’s early life will also be explored in the film. I’d guess through some kind of flashbacks but we don’t know that for sure. Seren will, I am guessing, be one of the Elves who takes Gollum into captivity in Thranduil’s Kingdom where Gandalf comes to question him. However, we also know it’s the Elves who act as his jailers whom then take pity on Gollum and release him.
That should give you a fair idee of what to expect from this character.
