The Russo Brothers are likely pretty damn exhausted. I mean, who can blame them? Over the past several years, they’ve churned out three amazing films in the form of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, and Avengers: Infinity War. As of this writing, we are anxiously awaiting the impending Avengers 4, which will bring the ambitious Phase 3 of Marvel Studios’ master plan to a close.
But what about the Russos? How do they feel about tackling another Marvel Studios film in the future? More specifically, how do they feel about superhero movies in general? In the past, they have expressed that they’d at least need to take a break before jumping back into this kind of world in the future. During a recent Q&A at the Arclight hosted by Collider, they were asked if, in light of Disney acquiring Fox — and with it the likes of X-Men and Fantastic Four — if they had changed their mind.
Joe Russo answered, “Not until they’re ready to make Secret Wars.”

Of course, this was a response that was met with thunderous applause from the audience. And, I mean, why wouldn’t they be excited about something like that? It’s a story that pretty much has a ridiculous number of heroes take on a ridiculous number of villains, and as such, it’s the only real way the Russo can push the worlds they created to a whole new level.
But don’t go on expecting this to happen any time soon. It’s a story that would require tons more groundwork, and at the end of the day, it’s such a strange storyline that one could almost assume it’d never really be faithfully adapted to film — then again, we all thought that about Civil War and the idea of an Avengers film for the first time, didn’t we?
