Avengers: Infinity War – The Russo Brothers Say There Are No Alternate Timelines In the Films
Whatever happened, happened. So says the Russo brothers about Avengers: Infinity War. Meaning there are no alternate realities. If a character dies in the film, then that’s it, no outs, no bringing in alternate versions of a character. Both Anthony and Joe Russo recently spoke with ScreenRant, and shot down any theories implying there will be multiple timelines in the movies.
Joe Russo:
“There’s no ‘What If’ scenarios. Everything that happens in these movies, happens in these movies. There’s not like, you know, some potential, a tangential reality. It doesn’t affect the story. It’s if it happens, it happens. We wanted to commit to the storytelling and the most complete way and not give ourselves any kind of, you know, potential, uh, outs, like, uh, it was all a reality dreams.”

Anthony Russo:
“I think that’s because, you know because the stakes are so high in these films and we wanted to honor that he wanted to commit to those stakes.”
The stakes are indeed high, and we have had plenty of hints that beloved characters will die in the film. Alternate timelines and realities have been used in the comics, but the Russos will have none of that. I think this is the right move, the build-up to this film is a long time in the making, and if things can be undone, then whatever does happen will have far less meaning.
But does this mean we won’t be getting any time travel film for Avengers 4? Based on everything we’ve seen online, it being a time travel movie seemed like a sure thing, but does this eliminate that possibility?
