Avengers: Infinity War To Be Censored In Indonesia, Director Confused

There seems to be some major confusion regarding the runtime of Avengers: Infinity War. For some time, 156 minutes has been touted as the official runtime for the film, but after that, our source gave us a 150-minute runtime, and some others point to a 149-minute runtime. So what’s the deal?

Well, apparently, this partially may have to do with the Film Censorship Board, which has reportedly altered Avengers: Infinity War for the Indonesian market. This is apparently to lock down a PG-13 rating based on their storytelling guidelines. But is this something the directors knew about? Speaking at a Singapore event, co-director Joe Russo expressed his own confusion.

“I can’t image what seven minutes they would want to cut out of the movie. It’s the first we’re hearing of it so we’re a little taken aback, but yes, of course as an artist you don’t want anybody censoring anything or taking anything out of the film. This is a PG-13 movie, it’s not like it’s some radical piece of content so I’m a little shocked.”

I’d have to agree with Russo on this. While I haven’t seen the film (seeing it in one week!), based on the MCU’s track record, I can’t imagine there being a whole lot of questionable content for them to want to cut. That being said, given my exactly zero experience with the Indonesian rating system, my opinion on the matter means nothing.

It wouldn’t surprise me if that seven minutes consists of moments of action, and that if would have little effect on the plot…at least, that’s what we’d hope.
