In the past few years, some horror films have adapted concepts of using lovable children’s programming into terrifying situations.
In Buddy, it takes a children’s programming concept like Barney & Friends and turns it into something horrendous.
The film stars Cristin Milioti, Delaney Quinn, Patton Oswalt, and Michael Shannon, with Topher Grace and Keegan-Michael Key.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Remember Buddy—the bright orange unicorn and star of that classic children’s television show who brought joy and life lessons into your living room?
Inside the colorful world of “It’s Buddy!” a group of children spends their days singing, dancing, and helping Buddy spread happiness. But when one child refuses to play along, Buddy is not pleased, and cracks begin to appear in this seemingly perfect world.

The film is from the warped mind of Casper Kelly, who is known for many short films and series, particularly with Adult Swim’s horror short film Too Many Cooks, which you can watch online today.
It follows the recent trend of children’s programming in horror movies like Mr. Crocket, turning a Mr. Rogers Neighborhood into a horror setting, and The Banana Splits, using a kid-friendly Hanna-Barbera children’s cartoon into a slasher film. And this doesn’t even count the recent trends of adapting the animatronics of Chuck E. Cheese restaurants into killers like in Five Nights at Freddy’s or Willy’s Wonderland.
Most definitely terrifying is someone in a suit.
