As promised yesterday by HBO, here’s the first teaser trailer for House of the Dragon Season 3, coming this June. It was recently announced that House of the Dragon would be ending after Season 4, making this the penultimate Season of second Westeros set series on HBO.

Despite disappointment at the ending of Season 2, I’ll be back watching and reviewing House of the Dragon This June. This teaser I think does it job well. I doubt it will attract new Westeros fans, but those that watched Season 2 will likely be back to check out Season 3.
The thing is, I just hope the controversy of Season 2 is over and done with. Yet, given how things played it, all I see is more butterfly effects in Season 3. If you don’t know what that controversy is, I’ll give you the cliff notes.
Series showrunner Ryan Condal rejected several notes from franchise creator George R. R. Martin (GRRM). The result was quite a few changes from the story of the books and it’s fair to say fans, including myself were negative about those changes.

Then we had a response to all this from GRRM himself, which he then deleted. But you can check out the full exchange in the related section above. However, long story short, series writer thought he knew better than Martin, made exchanges and made the story worse, with potential butterfly effects into Season 3 and 4. Classic Hollywood story right?
This is a problem HBO will always have with A Song of Ice and Fire though. Sadly GRRM simply hasn’t written enough of his ideas to keep pace with the TV empire being built. Slowly but surely we are going to get into pure fan fiction territory, like Rings of Power. HBO recently announced A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will release yearly. The news was received well by fans sick of waiting years between seasons. However, there’s an issue.
GRRM has written three Dunk and Egg books of potentially around twelve, I think. Chances of GRRM writing any more Dunk and Egg books in the next 3 years? I’m sure he’ll get right on it, after finishing A Song of Ice and Fire in jig time. Frankly, I doubt we’ll ever see another novel published that Martin write solely himself. The franchise so far seems to do better the closer it sticks to what Martin wrote, which is the impending problem.
Now there’s talk of HBO sequel series, and maybe even movies of Aegon’s Conquest and an animated series. Martin has lost control of this beast to HBO and they are going to milk it for all it’s worth.
