Chicago Director Rob Marshall Top Choice For Disney’s Live-Action Little Mermaid

Looks like Disney is closing in on a director for their upcoming live-action Little Mermaid film. According to Deadline, Rob Marshall, who audiences may know is responsible for the film Chicago, is the top choice for the directorial position.

Right now, Marshall is hard at work on another Disney film — Mary Poppins Returns — and we can only expect that this means the studio has thus far been happy with the work Marshall gave them. It is worth noting that Marshall was also responsible for directing Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. While that film wasn’t too well received by fans and critics, it did managed to take in $1 billion at the worldwide box office. Take from that what you will.

Should this go through, this would be another film that he and Lin-Manuel Miranda will have worked on together. Miranda is one of the stars of Mary Poppins Returns, and is currently set to write new songs for The Little Mermaid, alongside the legend Alan Menken.

Of course, The Little Mermaid isn’t the only live-action adaptation the studio has in the works. Also coming down the pipe are films like Aladdin and The Lion King.

Would you like to see Rob Marshall take the helm of The Little Mermaid? Do you see his style as a good fit for the original animated film? Let us know your thoughts down below!
