According to a new report from Deadline, a deal looms ever closer for Netflix to buy Knives Out sequels. Director/writer Rian Johnson was always going to be making more Knives Out movies with star Daniel Craig. However, now Netflix near a deal worth over $400M to buy the rights to those sequels. Knives Out 2 and Knives Out 3 are expected to appear straight on the streaming service.
A bidding war was fight between Netflix, Apple and Amazon with Netflix appearing to come out on top. According to Deadline, Knives Out 2 should begin shooting June 28 in Greece, and casting will begin immediately. The only cast member expected to return at this stage is Daniel Craig as super sleuth Benoit Blanc. We know this because the last time Rian Johnson talked about these sequels he gave an ide of what to expect. I.e. that each film would be a new case with a new cast, connected only by Blanc. Think of it like the many Poirot stories. However, for all I know some characters could return? After all, Poirot had recurring companions. But would any of the Knives Out cast make sense returning in a new case? I think perhaps not.

Rian Johnson has not been my favorite film maker in his most recent years, but we all know why that is. On the other hand, I thoroughly enjoyed Knives Out and I am keen to see these sequels. The fact I can catch them on Netflix rather than theatre is even better for this fan. I don’t particularly view Knives Out as a movie that has to be seen in theatre, though perhaps you do?
Netflix to buy Knives Out sequel, what do you think? What are your hopes for Knives Out 2 and Knives Out 3. Like me are you just hoping this means we never quite get around to Johnson’s Star Wars trilogy? As always, leave any thoughts below.
