Guardians Of The Galaxy 3: Disney Reportedly Planning On Using James Gunn’s Script, Filmmaker Could Have Future At Studio
Yup, here we go. Not long after there were rumors regarding James Gunn’s script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 NOT getting news, it was a given we’d get reports saying the exact opposite…and here we are. Buried in a new piece from The Hollywood Reporter, it’s stated that “sources say” Disney plans on using Gunn’s script for the third film in the successful comic book movie franchise.
This comes on the heels of actor Dave Bautista (who plays Drax in the movies) stating he is feeling like he should quit if the studio opted not to use Gunn’s screenplay for the movie. It also comes on the heels of a contrary report that says the studio is looking to toss the script. So at this point…who’s to say which one is accurate? And for all we know, both are accurate and just reflect Disney’s own hesitance to commit one way or another.

But, assuming it is true, what would this mean for Disney? Would audiences and those in the industry let something like that fly? Given that they fired him after his controversial tweets came out, can they really just use his screenplay and hope that no one will say something? Unfortunately, Disney is in a bit of a “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” scenario with this.
But this isn’t all. The report even has this interesting line that says they hope Gunn could still work for the studio in some fashion, even if it’s direct another Marvel film. But, at this point, all that is still being worked out. “An end-all verdict hasn’t been issued and conversations with Marvel are still ongoing.”
