Harrison Ford Explains Why Star Wars and Indiana Jones Are Timeless
While Harrison Ford has a long list of great characters he has played throughout his career, none of them are more iconic than Han Solo and Indiana Jones. The wise cracking smuggler and the rough and tumble archeologist are legends in the world of cinema and royalty in the world of nerds. While out promoting Blade Runner: 2049, yet another iconic franchise and character for which the actor is famous for, Ford spoke with BUILD Series (via Screen Rant) and explained why franchises such as Star Wars and Indiana Jones are passed down through generations.
“[Blade Runner: 2049] is an adult adventure; Indiana Jones are family kind of films, and one of the great opportunities of my life is that Indiana Jones, Star Wars, stuff like that, gets passed on generationally. And so seeing that – having your father say, ‘Come on, let’s go see this,’ or your mom say… that’s very special. And having new generations come along and it’s reintroduced again, it’s incredible.”

I think Ford is right, most of the time a deep appreciation for iconic films start early, and It’s much more likely that parents will show their young ones franchises like Star Wars or Indiana Jones. Spanning decades, the aforementioned franchises have been shared and enjoyed by generations, and will continue to be cherished for years to come. Films that are aimed at older viewers are also passed down, but films such as these usually aren’t recommended by parents, but by siblings and cousins. I think films like Blade Runner, The Terminator, Aliens, are more of a coming of age type experience, one of the films you were told you were too young to watch, but found a way to watch them anyway.
