Home Sweet Home Alone Official Trailer Released: An Unnecessary New Entry For The Franchise

Home Alone is a must-see every year during the holiday season for many. It’s a classic. Kevin McCallister, played by Macaulay Culkin, is a funny and clever 8-year-old kid. The McCallisters are chaotic and I both love and hate the family’s dysfunction. Also, the villains, Marv and Harry, played by Daniel Stern and Joe Pesci are amazing. The goofy Marv and the serious Harry work so well. Home Alone has an amazing cast. I felt that after Home Alone 2, they should have left it be. Home Sweet Home Alone is coming to Disney+ on November 12 and the trailer is out now. I didn’t need this reboot, did you?

What Did I Just Watch

Disney.fandom.com has the synopsis as:

Max Mercer is a 12-year-old boy who is grounded and left home alone for the holidays when his family goes on a trip to Japan. Now he must work to defend his home from a married couple arrives there to steal a priceless heirloom.

But IMDb has it as:

A married couple tries to steal back a valuable heirloom from a troublesome kid.

These two movie descriptions paint the story very differently. So how much of a jerk is this kid? A 12-year-old somehow has this couple’s heirloom. You’re too old for this shit. And why would a couple break into someone’s home to get it back. Do they not understand they can file a police report? Watching Home Alone, the viewer understands that while Kevin is a jerk, he is only 8. Max is a pre-teen and should be more mentally developed or he’s just a horrible person. I can’t believe I’m saying that about a fictional child. Luckily, people don’t necessarily stay horrible people. We get to see Buzz as a cop so he turned out alright. I didn’t think he would end up in prison, but he was the biggest jerk in the McCallister family. Uncle Frank is a close second.

I don’t want another copy of Home Alone. I already have it. The jokes and dialog don’t land in the new movie and it feels repetitive with the same jokes and dialog from the first. And those don’t land either. Even the shot of Max in the window is like Kevin’s. Kate McCallister was freaking out when she found out Kevin wasn’t with them and was desperate to get home to him. Carol Mercer just seems slightly concerned. The movie, of course, doesn’t feel like Psycho 1998, but I don’t like Carol repeating Kate’s lines. I also don’t like the moment Max realizes he’s home alone. Again, repetitive.

What did you think of the Home Sweet Home Alone Trailer? Let me know in the comments.
