Insidious 4 Gets TWO Unsettling Trailers!

The folks over at Blumhouse have spent the past several years creating something of a horror-thriller renaissance with their slate of films. From The Visit to Paranormal Activity, Get Out, and The Purge, they’ve managed to bring the thrills and clean up at the box office at the same time. One other ridiculously profitable franchise for them has been Insidious. Ever since 2011, they’ve been releasing these movies every couple years for under $10 million apiece, and thus far, they’ve each brought int around or well above $100 million — more than justifying their production.

Of course, with such a successful track record (and a not awful overall reception from critics), it’s no surprise that we’ll be getting a fourth installment. In this latest entry, Insidious: The Last Key, creative minds behind the hit original trilogy return. In the supernatural thriller, which welcomes back franchise standout Lin Shaye as Dr. Elise Rainier, the brilliant parapsychologist faces her most fearsome and personal haunting yet: in her own family home.

The film is written by co-creator Leigh Whannell (Saw), who wrote the trilogy and directed Chapter 3; produced by Insidious regulars Jason Blum (The Purge series, Get Out), Oren Peli (Paranormal Activity) and co-creator James Wan (The Conjuring, Furious 7); and directed by series newcomer Adam Robitel (The Taking of Deborah Logan).

The first thing I noticed in this trailer are the visuals. While you may have a hard time distinguishing it from a lot of other horror movies out there, this one definitely has a very unique look when compared to other entries in the franchise. The premise itself seems promising, and more than anything, it has the potential to rely very little on jump scares. Of course, the trailer had a couple of those, but it seemed like it was more dependent on the creepiness of the lore rather than the cheap scares.
