Jack Ryan is coming back. This isn’t exactly a huge surprise. The show was actually renewed for a second season several months before the first season even dropped on Amazon Prime Video, so audiences were able to indulge in that first one with the knowledge that we’d be getting a second one the whole time, which is great news. But, thus far, we’ve had no update or release date for the season, which we’ve known had been in production.
Now, thanks to producer Andrew Form, we have an idea of where things stand. Speaking with Variety, he revealed that they have finished shooting the second season. Unfortunately, he did not give an update as to when we could expect the season, but given the first season hit in late August of last year, it doesn’t seem unreasonable that we’d be getting a similar timetable here for Season 2.

In terms of the content for the show, don’t expect a ridiculous amount of serialization. Yes, the core acting trio of John Krasinski, Wendell Pierce, and Abbie Cornish will be returning in their roles as Jack Ryan, James Greer, and Cathy Mueller, respectively, but there won’t be much embellishment on what came before in Season 1.
This has been intentional from the very start, as was mentioned by co-showrunner Graham Roland back when its first season launched:
I think one of the things that we both talked about when we started coming up with the architecture of the show was that you should be able to watch it in the same way that you can go to an airport bookstore and grab a Tom Clancy Jack Ryan book and never have read the previous one, and still enjoy it. In that same way, you should be able to enjoy our show. It shouldn’t be so serialized that you can’t jump in at any moment.
